7 Tips To Get the Most Out of Your Scented Candles

We do the most we can to guarantee that you are safe with our candles. ✨

As candle makers, we must to do our part to ensure that our candles are handled properly by putting safety reminders and care instructions on each candle.

Not a lot of people know that the first burn should be at least 2 hours, always allow a full melt pool with each use, etc. Of course, we do not have full control of how people use our candles - like customers not trimming the wicks to 1/4in before each use, or not extinguishing the candle before sleeping 😢. Having cautionary labels with key rules for candle fire-safety is an industry standard.

Each Natu candle has a warning label at the bottom of the candle since day 1! But we understand that not everyone reads "fine print" labels. That's why we have decided to include extra guidelines (candle care card) in our packages to make sure that you are safe and you can get the most out of your Natu candles. 🌿

The first burn is important

Did you know that candles have a "memory"? The first burn will determine how your candle will perform overtime.

  • Before burning your candle, trim the wick to 1/4 inches or 5mm. This ensures that your candle will have a slow burn and evenly melt the wax.
  • Burn your candle for 2-3 hours. Allowing the wax to melt evenly up to the sides of the vessel distributes a stronger scent throw and prevents tunneling of your candle.

Make it a habit to trim your wicks!

We cannot stress this enough. If you want to prolong the life of your candle, make sure it's height is 1/4 inches or 5mm each and every time you light it. Any longer than this height will make the candle too hot, the flame unnecessarily high, and before you know it, you're already halfway through your candle. A shorter wick produces a cleaner burn and no nasty soot!

If you see black soot on your vessels...

Put out the flame safely, preferably with a snuffer. Wait for the candle to cool. Wipe the vessel with a damp cloth to remove the soot. Trim the wick to its appropriate size and light it again.

How to extinguish your candle like an adult

Use a candle snuffer or wick dipper for cotton wick candles. Dip the wick in the wax and straighten once the flame is out. Do not blow out the candle to prevent hot wax from splattering.

Do not burn all the way to the bottom of the candle.

Do not light your candle again when only 1/2in of wax remains. The flame needs a good wax foundation for it to burn safely. Burning all the way down will overheat your candle and might damage the vessel. If you want to use up all the remaining wax, use a candle warmer instead.

Best way to store your candles.

Keep your candles away from direct sunlight or artificial spotlights. Store in a cool, dark, and dry area. When not in use, keep the lid on (if there's a lid) to prevent the fragrance from evaporating.

Follow fire-safety measures place underneath your candle.

Each candle has fire-safety warning labels at the bottom of the vessel. Do not burn longer than the recommended time. Keep candles away from drafts, uneven surfaces, and flammable objects. Keep away from children and pets. Never leave a lit candle unattended. Do not extinguish the flame with water. And please do not sleep with a lit candle.
